Foundation is a community-based gym in the heart of Wellington that brings busy
professionals together to take time out of their day to care for their health and fitness. After
more than six years of support from our community, it was their turn to give back. And, being
a gym, the only way was to hold a 12 hour cardio challenge!
And so Ks for Kiwis was born: a cardio challenge to cover 1,600km in 12 hours — the length
of Aotearoa.
The Foundation team wanted to choose charities that aligned with their values of connection,
positive mental health, movement and good nutrition. Madoc Benfell Trust was quickly
identified as a chosen charity because their mahi aligns with Foundations’ - that mental
health and physical health go hand in hand.
And once the Foundation team reached out to Antoinette at the Madoc Benfell Memorial
Trust - there was an instant connection, talking about memories of Madoc, the importance of
shining a light on mental health, and the power of movement for overall wellbeing.
On 8th October, during Mental Health Awareness week, 27 teams travelled 1,673.4kms on
cardio machines across the day - achieving the goal of travelling the length of Aotearoa.
For Foundation, this day was about more than cardio — it was about moving for wellness,
connecting with others, and giving back to those who need it most.
The day raised $18,925, which was split between Madoc Benfell Memorial Trust, Garden to
Table, and Reps for Remi, with each charity receiving $6,308.
This event showed what community truly means. It was not just about completing kilometres
or raising funds; it was about people coming together for purpose, connection, and
compassion.
From everyone at Foundation Gym and Madoc Benfell Trust: thank you - your energy and generosity have left a lasting impact.
